ACC Players Shine on Walter Camp Pre-Season All-American Team

As the college football season quickly approaches, the excitement is building for fans and players alike. With conference media days on the horizon and training camps set to open soon, the first pre-season accolades have already started rolling in. The Walter Camp Foundation, the oldest All-American team in the country dating back to 1889, has announced its pre-season All-American team, featuring three standout players from the ACC.

Leading the way for the ACC on the first team is North Carolina Tar Heels running back, Omarion Hampton. The Clayton, NC native had a stellar season in 2023, rushing for over 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns. Hampton was a key contributor to the Tar Heels’ success last season and was recognized as a first or second-team All-American by multiple organizations.

Joining Hampton on the first team is Louisville Cardinals defensive lineman, Ashton Gillotte. The senior had an impressive 2023 campaign, recording 45 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks. Gillotte was a second-team Walter Camp All-American last year and also earned All-ACC honors.

Rounding out the ACC representation on the first team is Florida State Seminoles punter, Alex Mastromanno. The Australian native averaged 45.5 yards per punt in 2023 and was a finalist for the Ray Guy Award for the nation’s best punter. Mastromanno was a key special teams weapon for the Seminoles and earned second-team All-ACC honors.

In addition to the first team selections, several other ACC players were recognized on the second team, including North Carolina Tar Heels tight end Bryson Nesbit, Miami Hurricanes placekicker Andrew Borregales, Clemson Tigers defensive lineman Peter Woods, and Clemson Tigers linebacker Barrett Carter.

Notre Dame, a partial member of the ACC, also had players recognized by the Walter Camp Foundation, showcasing the conference’s depth and talent heading into the 2024 season.

As the season draws closer, fans can look forward to more pre-season watch lists and awards announcements in the coming weeks, building the anticipation for what promises to be an exciting college football season ahead.
