Local Mental Health Agency Launches Project-Based Voucher Program

Louisville Metro Housing Authority Approves Project-Based Voucher Program for Dosker Manor Residents

The Louisville Metro Housing Authority board has approved a project-based voucher program that will directly impact residents of Dosker Manor, a housing complex with over 600 units built in 1968. The program aims to provide residents with better living conditions and more affordable housing options.

One resident, Angelatta Johnson, who has been living at Dosker Manor for six years, described the current living conditions as outdated, falling apart, and infested with bugs, rodents, and mold. She expressed her relief at the opportunity to relocate to a better environment through the project-based voucher program.

The program involves tying vouchers to specific units to help finance the development of new housing options. LMHA Executive Director Elizabeth Strojan explained that this initiative will not only improve living conditions for residents but also increase the overall supply of affordable housing in the area.

LMHA has been working with residents to ensure a smooth transition, offering social service support and wraparound services throughout the relocation process. Strojan emphasized that residents will not pay more in rent than they currently do, whether they choose to move to other LMHA properties or find a unit on their own.

For Johnson, a grandmother of three, this relocation program means the opportunity to have a safe and comfortable place to spend time with her grandchildren. She expressed her excitement about the prospect of a better living situation for herself and her family.

The cost of operating Dosker Manor last year was $13 million, but Strojan assured that relocating residents will be a more cost-effective solution. LMHA is aiming to start moving people out of Dosker Manor as early as July 18, providing a fresh start for residents in need of better housing options.
