Legendary Local High School Football Coach, Dennis Lampley, Passes Away
The community of Saint Matthews, Kentucky is mourning the loss of a true legend in local high school football. Dennis Lampley, who coached at Trinity High School for an impressive 47 years, passed away recently. Lampley’s impact on the football program at Trinity was immeasurable, as he led the team to numerous state championships and a remarkable 50-game win streak during his tenure as head coach.
In addition to his success on the field, Lampley was also known for his leadership and mentorship off the field. He was inducted into both the KHSAA Hall of Fame and the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to the sport. Beyond football, Lampley was involved in the community as a board member for the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
One of Lampley’s former players, UofL’s head football coach Jeff Brohm, shared a heartfelt message on social media, expressing his gratitude for the impact Lampley had on his life. Brohm described Lampley as a mentor and friend, highlighting the coach’s ability to inspire others to be their best in all aspects of life.
It was revealed in a post from Lampley’s son that the legendary coach had been battling Alzheimer’s for some time. Despite his health struggles, Lampley’s legacy as a coach and mentor will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
