Louisville Man Wins $150,000 Powerball Prize After Impulse Ticket Purchase
In a stroke of luck, a Louisville man who decided on a whim to buy a Powerball ticket after receiving a promotional email from the Kentucky Lottery is now $150,000 richer. The man, who chose to remain anonymous, shared with Kentucky Lottery officials that he purchased the winning ticket online after being prompted by the email.
Taking a chance, the man also opted to add the Power Play feature to his ticket, which ended up multiplying his winnings. His ticket matched four white ball numbers and the Powerball in the drawing held on July 8, securing him the game’s $50,000 prize. With the Power Play number drawn that day being 3, his prize was tripled to a total of $150,000.
“It was my first time playing Power Play,” the man admitted. “I really wasn’t even sure how it worked. Fortunately, I played it this time.”
The fortunate winner only discovered his windfall the following day when he checked his email and received a notification from the lottery confirming his big win. Shocked by the news, he recounted, “I looked and saw Kentucky Lottery and thought it was another promotional thing. I opened it and it said, ‘Congratulations.’ It really set my mind off, I read down to the second line, and it said, ‘$150,000!'”
Upon confirming the win on the Kentucky Lottery app, the man excitedly shared the news with his wife, who initially had trouble believing it. After seeing the winning numbers online, she finally accepted the reality of their newfound fortune.
Receiving a check for $108,000 after taxes on July 10, the lucky winner revealed that both he and his wife plan to retire with the extra money providing a significant boost to their plans.
The unexpected windfall has left the couple grateful for their luck and excited for the future. With dreams of retirement now within reach, the Louisville man’s spontaneous ticket purchase has turned into a life-changing event.
