MACEE Enhances Collaboration in Research and Innovation for Malaysia’s Future

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) is set to play a crucial role in directing collaborative research efforts towards technology and innovation, aligning seamlessly with Malaysia’s vision of becoming a nation renowned for its innovation, development, and sustainability, according to Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

Speaking at the MACEE Summer Soiree 2024 – A Summer Celebration of Malaysian and American Fulbrighters, Zambry highlighted the importance of partnerships with 11 Malaysian universities to enhance educational accessibility, raise standards, and prepare Malaysia’s workforce for the digital age.

Zambry, who is also the honorary co-chair of MACEE, emphasized the significance of binational efforts between Malaysia and the United States (US) in strengthening international alliances and solidifying MACEE’s reputation as a beacon of educational excellence.

The event also saw remarks from US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D. Kagan, who highlighted the long-term benefits of educational exchanges in creating people-to-people ties and institutional linkages.

MACEE’s Executive Director Curtis Johnson emphasized the role of Fulbright grantees in building bridges of binational educational diplomacy for over 60 years, further fortifying mutual respect and collaboration between Malaysia and the US.

The event celebrated the return of 22 Malaysian Fulbright grantees for 2023/2024, as well as the presence of 14 American Fulbright grantees currently in Malaysia and 14 Malaysian Fulbright grantees set to travel to the US in August.

Established in 1963, MACEE manages the Fulbright Programme to foster mutual understanding and strengthen the bonds between Malaysia and the US. Over the years, MACEE has facilitated over 1,000 Malaysians and 2,000 American Fulbright grants, contributing to the development of future leaders and scholars.

With a history of over 77 years and over 400,000 grants awarded worldwide, the Fulbright programme continues to be a cornerstone of educational and cultural exchange, paving the way for a brighter future for Malaysia and the US.
