Investigation into Early Closure of Kroger Store in West Louisville

Metro Council Members Investigate Early Closure of Kroger Store in West Louisville

Louisville, Ky. – Two Louisville Metro Council members are on a mission to uncover the reasons behind the early closure of the Kroger store on West Broadway. This store serves as one of only two grocery options in the west end, making the community, already considered a food desert, even drier in terms of access to essential goods.

According to Kroger spokesperson Jessica Sharp, the store is supposed to be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. However, local residents have reported inconsistent operating hours, causing inconvenience for those who rely on the store for their daily needs.

Miss Caldwell, a resident who lives near the Kroger store and does not own a car, shared her struggles with the erratic closing hours. She mentioned that the store started closing early a couple of months ago, prompting her to adjust her shopping routine to ensure she can access groceries when needed.

For many like Caldwell and Antwan Jones, who bike to the store, the closure poses a significant challenge as they have limited options to access essential items elsewhere. The lack of transportation and the distance to the next closest grocery store make it difficult for residents to meet their daily needs.

In response to these concerns, Metro Council members Tammy Hawkins and Jecorey Arthur have organized a rally in the Kroger parking lot to advocate for extended operating hours. Their collaboration aims to address the issue of food insecurity in West Louisville by ensuring residents have consistent access to groceries.

Caldwell also highlighted concerns about understaffing at the store, speculating it could be a factor contributing to the early closures. She expressed hope that the issue will be resolved soon to provide the community with reliable access to essential goods.

As the investigation continues, residents are eagerly awaiting a resolution to ensure they can continue to rely on the Kroger store for their daily needs.
