Tennessee Baseball Adds Louisville Infielder Gavin Kilen through Transfer Portal
The Tennessee baseball team and head coach Tony Vitello are once again making waves in the transfer portal, securing a big commitment from Louisville shortstop Gavin Kilen. Kilen, who was a standout performer for the Cardinals last season, brings a strong bat to the Vols lineup after batting .330 with 23 doubles and 41 RBIs.
In a short and sweet Instagram announcement, Kilen expressed his excitement to join the Vols with a simple message, “See you soon, Knoxville 🍊.” The talented infielder was highly sought after in the transfer portal, earning the top spot in Baseball America’s rankings for the 2024 cycle.
With two years of eligibility remaining, Kilen will look to elevate his game even further at Tennessee alongside middle infielders Ariel Antigua and Dean Curley. Curley is expected to take over as the Vols’ shortstop, leaving Kilen and others to compete for the second base position previously held by Christian Moore.
Kilen is the second player to commit to Tennessee through the transfer portal this offseason, following Kennesaw State pitcher Tanner Franklin. With the Vols losing seven players to the portal this year, expect Vitello and his team to continue their success in adding top talent through transfers. Stay tuned for more exciting developments as the Vols gear up for the upcoming season.
