OZONE ALERT FOR TULSA METROPOLITAN AREA – JULY 12, 2019
Ozone Alert Issued for Tulsa Metropolitan Area on Friday
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has issued an ozone alert for Friday, July 12, for the Tulsa metropolitan area. This alert indicates that conditions are favorable for the buildup of ozone near the ground, potentially reaching unhealthy levels.
Ozone, while beneficial in the upper atmosphere, can be harmful when concentrated near the ground. This can especially impact individuals with respiratory issues and can also damage vegetation.
To combat this issue, residents are encouraged to take simple steps to reduce their contribution to ozone buildup. This includes postponing unnecessary driving, carpooling when possible, and avoiding the use of lawn mowers and gas trimmers. Industrial facilities are also urged to reduce pollution emissions as much as possible during ozone alert days.
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality and the Indian Nations Council of Governments are available for further information and can be reached at (918) 293-1600 and (918) 584-7526, respectively. Additional information on current ozone levels in the Tulsa area can be found at www.ozonealert.com.
By taking these preventative measures, residents can make a significant impact in reducing the pollutants that contribute to ozone problems in the Tulsa metropolitan area. Stay informed and take action to help improve air quality in the region.
