In a significant development, the United States and India have taken substantial steps to enhance their defence relationship, with key deals for MQ-9B Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and GE-414 jet engines moving forward. These advancements signify a deepening of industrial collaborations under the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) framework.

During a virtual interaction with journalists from Washington DC, US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt M Campbell provided insights into the progress of major defence deals between the two countries. India has expressed interest in co-producing Stryker infantry vehicles and is engaged in preliminary discussions with the US regarding Stryker and Javelin Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM). While these projects are still in the early stages, discussions are progressing positively.

The MQ-9B deal, in particular, is making headway, with a letter of offer and acceptance already delivered to India in early March. General Atomics is currently in negotiations with the Indian Ministry of Defence to finalize the specifics of the sale, with the US offering assistance in sealing the deal.

Space exploration is also a key focus of their partnership, with the first-ever joint mission between NASA and ISRO astronauts to the International Space Station set to pave the way for future collaborative efforts. Cooperation in areas like semiconductor design and artificial intelligence further underscores their commitment to bolstering national security through advanced technology.

Overall, the advancements in the defence relationship between the United States and India demonstrate a growing partnership that is set to bolster their strategic capabilities and mutual interests in the coming years.
