Alberta O. Jones Park Day Honors Legacy of Civil Rights Activist

Alberta O. Jones Park Day celebrates life of civil rights activist in Louisville

The community of west Louisville came together this weekend to honor the legacy of civil rights activist Alberta Jones at Alberta Jones Park Day. Jones, the first woman appointed an attorney in Jefferson County, was tragically murdered in 1965, but her commitment to equality and serving others continues to inspire.

The event, hosted by Parks Alliance Louisville, featured a variety of activities for community members to enjoy, including music, games, and information from local organizations about available services. President and CEO of Parks Alliance Louisville, Brooke Pardue, expressed excitement about hosting the event and providing the community with what they want and deserve.

Alberta Jones Park, located on 23rd Street, opened two years ago and has become a gathering place for the community to come together and celebrate. The annual Alberta Jones Park Day serves as a reminder of Jones’s impact and the importance of continuing her work towards equality and unity.
