Louisville’s Baptist Fellowship Center Suffers Damage from EF-1 Tornado

Cleanup Efforts Underway in West Louisville After EF-1 Tornado Hits Parkland Neighborhood

The aftermath of an EF-1 tornado that ripped through the Parkland neighborhood in Louisville continues to be felt as cleanup efforts are underway at the Baptist Fellowship Center. The tornado caused significant damage to the center, blowing off part of the roof and leaving debris scattered throughout the building.

Brandi Dunn, who manages the operations at the center, described the scene inside the building as “still raining, although it’s nice and sunny outside.” Fortunately, no children were inside at the time of the tornado as they were home for the Fourth of July holiday. Despite the destruction, Dunn expressed gratitude that everyone was safe.

The second and third floors of the building suffered extensive damage, with water leaking onto desks and offices completely destroyed. Dunn highlighted the historical significance of the Fellowship Center, which has been serving the community since 1914. She emphasized the need to assess the extent of the damage and determine what can be salvaged.

Governor Andy Beshear visited the site to survey the damage and spoke with Dunn about the importance of the center to the Parkland community. The Baptist Fellowship Center will remain closed until contractors and inspectors evaluate the repairs needed to restore the building to its former state.

The community is rallying together to support the cleanup efforts and ensure that the Fellowship Center can continue its vital work in serving families in the area. The resilience and determination of the community in the face of this natural disaster are evident as they work towards rebuilding and restoring the center.
