West Louisville Residents Clean Up After EF1 Tornado Hit Area on July 4

Residents of West Louisville are reeling after an EF1 tornado tore through the area on July 4, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Mayor Craig Greenberg and Governor Andy Beshear, along with other officials, visited the neighborhood to survey the damage and offer support to those affected.

Aaliyah Dailey-Brown, a resident who narrowly escaped the storm, recounted the harrowing experience of hearing the winds pick up just moments before the tornado touched down. “You just heard everything just flying through outside … you (could) just hear everything, like ripping up outside,” she said.

Despite the devastation, there were no reported injuries, but approximately a dozen structures were impacted by the tornado. Emergency services personnel were on the scene to assist residents and assess the situation.

Sam Rudolph, a master electrician, noted that large trees had taken out power lines for multiple residents, adding to the challenges faced by the community. Louisville Metro Public Works is working to clear debris from the area to help residents begin the process of recovery.

Governor Beshear urged those in need of assistance to reach out to the Disaster Distress Helpline for support. As the community comes together to pick up the pieces, the spirit of resilience and solidarity shines through in West Louisville.
