Louisville Tea Café Receives $10,000 Grant from American Express and Main Street America
The American Express and Main Street America Backing Small Business Grant Program has made a significant impact on 500 small businesses across the U.S., including Sis Got Tea in Louisville, Kentucky. This Black-owned, woman-owned, and LGBTQ+-owned tea café has been awarded $10,000 to support its mission of providing a safe and inclusive space for the community.
Founded in 2019, Sis Got Tea offers a variety of teas and serves as a hub for community events and meet-ups. Owner and founder, Arielle Clark, saw a need for a space like this in Louisville, where LGBTQ+ and marginalized individuals can feel welcome and supported. The café hosts clinics for name changes and expungements, provides essential resources like Narcan and period products, and even donates a portion of its proceeds to organizations such as the Gaza Sunbirds.
For Clark, receiving this grant is life-changing, as it will allow Sis Got Tea to continue hosting events, paying bills, and improving accessibility for all patrons. This grant not only supports the growth of small businesses like Sis Got Tea but also contributes to the overall well-being of the community.
