Educational Opportunities Bring Hope to Bwoga Village in Uganda
Louisville Business Owner Brings Educational Opportunities to Home Village in Uganda
Sarah Kimeu, a Louisville business owner, is making a difference in her home village of Bwoga, Uganda, by providing educational opportunities to children who may not have had access to schooling otherwise.
Growing up in a small village with limited resources, Sarah faced challenges in pursuing her education. However, with the help of her aunt and a pastor from Norway, Sarah was able to attend boarding school and eventually earn a scholarship to study at Western Kentucky University in the United States.
Sarah’s husband, Joseph, also overcame obstacles in his education, coming from a large family in Kenya and eventually earning his master’s degree at WKU before accepting a teaching job in Jefferson County Public Schools.
Together, Sarah and Joseph have started initiatives to support education in Bwoga, including founding the Bwoga Elementary Library and creating the BEL Scholarship Fund to help cover school costs for children in need.
The library, completed in 2023, has already had a positive impact on the village, inspiring children to dream of bright futures and pursue careers in various fields.
To further support the library and its programs, a fundraiser called Taste of Uganda will be held in Louisville on July 12. The event will feature Ugandan cuisine, African drumming, and dance performances, with proceeds going towards stocking books and computers for the library.
Sarah’s dedication to providing educational opportunities and empowering her community in Uganda is truly inspiring, showcasing the impact one person can have in making a difference in the lives of others.
