Louisville Woman, 104, Featured in A&W Campaign Celebrating Centenarians
Louisville, Ky. (WDRB) – Hazel Calloway, a 104-year-old Louisville resident, is being featured in a national A&W campaign celebrating centenarians. As part of its 105th anniversary celebration, A&W is offering free root beer floats to individuals who are 100 years old or older.
Calloway, a World War II veteran, is known for her positivity and humble nature. Born in 1920, she volunteered for the military with her sister right out of high school. She served in the U.S. Navy as an air traffic controller and later worked in a military supply store, where she met her husband, a U.S. Marine named George.
Despite facing various challenges throughout her life, including the loss of her siblings and husband, as well as surviving breast cancer at 77, Calloway remains resilient and grateful for her loving family. She continues to exercise by walking and relies on magnifying glasses and hearing aids due to limited vision and hearing.
In the A&W campaign, Calloway is joined by fellow centenarian Glendell Bennett, also a World War II veteran. The campaign aims to celebrate long-time A&W fans and show appreciation to centenarians who have been loyal supporters of the restaurant since its establishment in 1919.
A&W’s Vice President of Marketing & Innovation, Liz Bazner, expressed gratitude towards centenarian fans, stating that the brand would not have survived the last century without their support. The promotion offers free small root beer floats to individuals over 100 years old each week at all A&W locations in the U.S.
Calloway encourages others to try the root beer floats and emphasizes the importance of having a grateful heart and prayer in facing life’s challenges. Her inspiring story serves as a reminder of resilience and gratitude, resonating with individuals of all ages.
