Local Guard Meleek Thomas Likely to Choose Between Arkansas and UConn in Class of 2025
The Pitt Panthers are facing a tough battle to recruit local star Meleek Thomas in the Class of 2025. According to Jamie Shaw of On3, Thomas is likely to choose between Arkansas and UConn, with a 60% confidence towards the Huskies, who have recently won back-to-back National Championships.
Thomas, who hails from Midland, Pa., has had an impressive high school career, winning consecutive WPIAL and PIAA state titles and putting up impressive stats on the court. He has taken official visits to top programs like UConn and Arkansas, with former Kentucky coach John Calipari’s move to Arkansas ruling out the Wildcats as a potential destination for Thomas.
The talented guard has also transferred to Overtime Elite in Atlanta for his senior season, where he will be joined by fellow Pittsburgh native and Pitt target Amari Evans. Pitt head coach Jeff Capel is making a strong push to land Thomas and other top guards in the Class of 2025, attending events like the Nike EYBL Peach Jam to scout the talent.
Pitt fans are eagerly anticipating Thomas’ decision, as they hope to see him team up with former high school teammate and Pitt recruit Brandin Cummings at the Petersen Events Center. Stay tuned to Inside the Panthers for the latest updates on Thomas and other recruiting news.
