Relocation of Dosker Manor Residents to Commence in Coming Weeks

Dosker Manor Residents Begin Moving Out for Redevelopment Effort

Dosker Manor residents in Louisville, Ky., are preparing for a big move as the Louisville Metro Housing Authority (LMHA) plans to demolish the long-troubled housing complex to make way for new development.

Residents of Dosker Manor, which has been plagued by crime, disrepair, and dangerous living conditions, are being relocated to new housing as part of the redevelopment effort. The first group of residents will move out on a voluntary basis, with LMHA covering all expenses associated with the relocation.

LMHA Executive Director Elizabeth Strojan emphasized that residents will either find a new public housing unit or receive a voucher, ensuring that nobody’s rent will increase. Dosker Manor residents have priority for public housing or Section 8 vouchers, making the transition smoother for those affected.

While some residents may be nervous about the move, Strojan is confident that once the process begins, everyone will be excited to move into a better situation. LMHA is working on plans for builders, financing, and necessary applications through HUD to prepare for the demolition and reconstruction of Dosker Manor.

Once the redevelopment effort is complete, former Dosker Manor residents will have the first pick of the new housing options. The relocation process is expected to take 12 to 18 months, with residents moving out in phases starting with the most structurally compromised building.

Overall, the redevelopment of Dosker Manor represents a new beginning for residents who have long endured unsafe living conditions. LMHA’s commitment to providing safe, affordable housing for all residents underscores the importance of this project in revitalizing the community.
