Severe Thunderstorms Expected to Impact Several Counties in Kentucky and Indiana
Residents in Dubois, Crawford, Perry, Orange, Meade, Hancock, Breckinridge, and Ohio counties should be on high alert as strong thunderstorms are set to hit the area. The National Weather Service in Louisville, KY issued a Special Weather Statement warning of the approaching storms.
The storms, moving at 35 mph, are expected to bring wind gusts of up to 40 mph. This could result in tree limbs being knocked down and unsecured objects being blown around. Areas such as Jasper, Tell City, Paoli, and Hardinsburg are expected to be impacted.
In addition to the strong winds, there is also the potential for localized flooding due to torrential rainfall. Residents are advised not to drive through flooded roadways and to seek shelter indoors if outdoors.
A Tornado Watch is in effect until midnight for south central Indiana and central Kentucky. The severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Martin and northwestern Lawrence counties has been cancelled as the storm has moved out of the area.
However, a severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 8:30 PM EDT for southwestern Monroe, southeastern Owen, and eastern Greene counties. Residents in Ellettsville, Freedom, Solsberry, and Owensburg should be prepared for potential damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
