Louisville Police Chief Resigns Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations – Mayor Appoints Interim Chief

Louisville Metro Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel has resigned amid an investigation into her handling of sexual harassment allegations within the department. Mayor Craig Greenberg announced her resignation, appointing Acting Chief of Police Paul Humphrey as the interim chief. The mayor emphasized the need for changes in policies and procedures regarding sexual harassment and police misconduct. Immediate reforms are expected to be implemented to create a safer and more accountable work environment. Gwinn-Villaroel’s resignation comes in the midst of ongoing national criticism of the department, including the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor and the recent arrest of golfer Scottie Scheffler. The City of Louisville is also in negotiations with the U.S. Department of Justice to address civil rights violations by the LMPD. Gwinn-Villaroel, who joined the department in 2021, previously worked at the Atlanta Police Department.
